Electric Chamber at L.A.B | Live Jazz

June 10 @ 20:00 £12.50

Electric Chamber is a boundary-pushing quartet redefining the sound and scope of modern chamber jazz. Based in London, the ensemble brings together four distinctive musicians—Natalie Rozario on cello, Riley Stone-Lonergan on saxophone, Adam Teixeira on drums, and guitarist-composer Vitor Pereira—to create a sound world where jazz improvisation, contemporary classical textures, and cinematic storytelling converge. The result is music that is intricate yet expansive, structured yet unpredictable, and always deeply expressive.

Over the past few years, Electric Chamber has steadily built a reputation as one of the most distinctive voices on London’s vibrant jazz scene. The quartet has captivated audiences at renowned venues such as the Vortex Jazz Club and PizzaExpress Jazz Club Soho, where their genre-defying approach and compelling live performances have earned enthusiastic responses from listeners. Rather than adhering to traditional jazz formats, Electric Chamber approaches performance as a narrative experience—each piece unfolding like a story, guiding the audience through shifting moods, colours, and intensities.

Central to the group’s identity is a unique fusion of musical influences. Their sound draws from the textural sophistication of contemporary classical music and the atmospheric qualities of cinematic composition, while remaining rooted in the spontaneity and rhythmic vitality of modern jazz. Carefully shaped melodies, layered harmonies, and dynamic contrasts create a sonic landscape that is both immersive and emotionally resonant. At times the music is delicate and chamber-like, with the instruments weaving intricate lines around one another; at other moments it erupts into powerful surges of energy driven by collective improvisation.

The quartet’s instrumentation plays a crucial role in shaping this distinctive palette. Natalie Rozario’s cello adds a rich and lyrical depth rarely heard in jazz ensembles, bridging classical sonorities with improvisational freedom. Riley Stone-Lonergan’s saxophone brings both warmth and adventurousness, capable of moving from haunting melodic passages to fiery improvisations. Adam Teixeira’s drums provide rhythmic momentum and textural nuance, anchoring the music while constantly pushing it forward. At the centre of the ensemble is guitarist and composer Vitor Pereira, whose compositions form the backbone of Electric Chamber’s repertoire.

Pereira is a London-based guitarist and composer known for creating music that bridges jazz, classical, and contemporary traditions. In addition to Electric Chamber, he leads the Vitor Pereira Quintet, an ensemble that has released four acclaimed albums and developed an international following. Through Electric Chamber, Pereira explores a more chamber-oriented sound world, crafting compositions that combine intricate structures with open spaces for improvisation. His writing often emphasises atmosphere and narrative flow, allowing each piece to evolve organically as the musicians interact in real time.

Alongside his performance career, Pereira is also active as a composer for film and media. He holds a Master’s degree in Music Composition for Film and TV from the University of West London, graduating with distinction in 2024. His work in film scoring has further shaped the cinematic dimension of Electric Chamber’s music. Several of his scores for short films have received nominations at international festivals, and this narrative sensibility frequently finds its way into the quartet’s compositions, giving the music a vivid sense of atmosphere and dramatic progression.

What ultimately sets Electric Chamber apart is the balance they achieve between careful composition and spontaneous interaction. Each performance becomes a living, evolving dialogue between the musicians. Themes appear, transform, and dissolve; quiet moments of suspended tension can suddenly give way to bursts of rhythmic intensity or sweeping melodic lines. The music feels alive, constantly shifting and responding to the energy of the room.

Intriguing, contemporary, and cinematic, Electric Chamber offers a musical experience that is both intellectually engaging and emotionally compelling. By dissolving the boundaries between chamber music, jazz improvisation, and filmic atmosphere, the quartet continues to carve out a distinctive artistic voice—one that invites audiences into a rich and unpredictable sonic journey.
